Watermelon Jello Shots

Liven up your next get-together with these watermelon jello shots! The perfect combination of sweet and tart, these will become one of The Best Jello Shots for all your summer parties!

These are the perfect jello shots to make for any party, any time of year, for any reason at all! Since they look like watermelons, they fit in perfectly at summer BBQs. But their sweet and sour taste make them a fun addition at spring and fall parties too.

The red and green colors make them look just like Christmas shots.

Plus, they are super easy to prepare. If you’ve ever made jello before, then you can make these. They are a perfect last-minute addition to your party’s menu.

If you want to serve them with fresh watermelon, here’s how to pick out a fresh watermelon.

Make-Ahead Jello Watermelon Shots

When you make the jello shots inside small cups with lids, you can store a box of them in the refrigerator three days before your party.

You can even pack them into a small box and send them home with your guests!

If you’re going to make them ahead of time, I suggest storing them without the candies on top. Add the sour candies right before the party.

What’s In Watermelon Jello Shots?

There isn’t any real watermelon in these jello shots, but there is a lot of watermelon flavors mixed into them. Here’s what you’ll need when you make them:

  • Lime Jello – This is what makes it bright green. The lime flavor tastes the best with the watermelon liquor. If you find a sour apple flavor, that would work really well too!
  • Boiling Water – Always use boiling water to make jello.
  • Watermelon Liquor – You’ll use watermelon liquor in both layers. I shared my favorite types of watermelon liquor below.
  • Watermelon Jello – This is pretty obvious. Watermelon jello for watermelon jello shots.
  • Watermelon Sour Jelly Candy – This is the topping! It adds pizzazz and a fun little flair to the jello shots.

How To Make Non-Alcoholic Watermelon Jello Shots

The only thing that makes them alcoholic is the watermelon liquor. You don’t have to make them taste strong, you can just make them with two layers of jello. But, if you want to give them a more powerful taste, add tiny bit of Monin watermelon syrup to each layer.

This will make them taste even sweeter, too!

Best Type Of Watermelon Liquor

There are a lot of different types of watermelon-flavored liquors out there, and almost all of them will taste really delicious in these jello shots.

My all-time favorite watermelon liquors for these jello shots are any of the following:

  • Absolut Watermelon Vodka
  • Smirnoff Watermelon Vodka
  • 99 Watermelons Schnapps Liqueur
  • DeKuyper Watermelon Schnapps
  • Bacardi Grand Melon Rum

You can try the jello shots with some Ole Smoky Salty Watermelon Whiskey, but it’s really strong and might overpower all the other flavors.

How Long To Store Jello Shots

If you’re planning a party, then you know how important it is to do as much as you can ahead of time.

This will give you more time to prepare for the party.

If you want to make these jello shots ahead of time, store them in the refrigerator for up to two days. Of course, store them without the sour candies on top.

Either cover the watermelon jello shots with plastic wrap or use the lids that came with the cups. This will keep the air off of them, which helps them taste fresh the day you serve them and prevent them from drying out.
