Every party needs a trademark drink. Margaritas are known for setting the mood for laughter, music, and dancing!

When you add some green food coloring and pour it all in a fancy cocktail glass, you have the makings of a drink that your friends will rave about (and ask you to recreate at every party after this one).

Three Ways To Make Margaritas

There are three ways to make a margarita – frozen, on the rocks, or straight up. Mine is on the rocks, but let’s look at what sets them all apart.

Frozen margaritas are made in a blender and have the consistency of an alcoholic slushie. They are super easy and fun to drink. You could make this St. Patrick’s Day margarita a frozen one – try it and see if you like it that way.

Margarita on the rocks means it is poured over ice. That’s how I made my recipe.

Then you can also just make it straight up. This is without any ice at all. This is the least watered-down version and is also the most difficult to drink really quickly.

How To Make A St. Patrick’s Day Margarita

All the exact steps are in the printable recipe card, just a little bit further below. This drink is surprisingly simple. In fact, if you’ve ever made a shaken cocktail before, you’ll think this is a breeze.

After you have all your ingredients ready, prepare your glass by salting the rim. Then, shake all the ingredients together in a shaker and pour it over ice in your salted class. Don’t forget the garnish! That’s the fun part!

NOTE: If you don’t want to mix the whiskey and tequila, use only one of the types of alcohol you like best.

Best Type of Alcohol For St. Patrick’s Day Margaritas

I used both tequila and Jameson in my St. Paddy’s Day cocktail.

The best type of tequila is entirely up to your own preference. My favorite is Patron Silver. Try to use agave tequila in this recipe.

If you want to indulge a bit, Clase Azul Reposado is one of the most premium types of tequila. It is aged for 8 months in oak barrels and sold in bottles that are so gorgeous you’ll want to decorate with them.

Don’t forget to keep it authentic and only use a real Irish whiskey. Jameson is the most popular and easiest to find.
