Shark Fin Jello Cups
These simple Shark Fin Jello Cups are easy to make and so fun to eat using the “shark fin” spoons! Not only are they fun for Shark Week, but also shark or beach theme parties!
Last year I discovered my son loved all things “Shark Week!” They are memorizing powerful creatures and I love all the interesting facts they share while watching the shows.

Shark Fin Jello Cups
SUPPLIES:
- Blue Jell-O
- Cool Whip
- Small Dessert Cups {these are not what I used but would work nicely}
- Gray Craft Foam
- Plastic Spoons
- Tacky Glue
- Pencil
- Scissors
TIP: One thing to keep in mind when buying your supplies – if your dessert cups are shallow you might want to buy shorter spoons. Otherwise, your shark fins are going to stick up very high above the Jello, and you will have to add tons of whip topping!
Think about the proportion of the Jello and where you want the “fin” to sit in the cup once inserted.
Make the Jello according to package instructions and pour evenly into cups. One small package made three individual dessert cups.
Each dessert cup was a little less than 3/4 of a cup. One small package makes two cups of prepared Jello. Place in the refrigerator to set up.
First, create a “fin” template out of white paper and used it to trace the fins onto the gray foam. That way they will all be the same size and shape.
Then cut out the DIY foam shark fins and glue them on the tops of the spoons.
Once the fins have dried, insert the shark fin spoons into the jello cups. In the photo below you can see the spoons down through the center of the jello.
I then gently spooned in the whipped topping on top and around the fins. If I had placed the topping on first, the spoon would have pushed the cool whip through the jello…I thought that would look a little messy.

Thanks, Jenny! These Jello Cups are so easy to make. The kids will love eating from the fin spoons – something fun for a day of water play or a party!
What kind of glue did you use to attach the fin to the spoon?
Hi Missy, I used Tacky Glue. You can see it here. This is an affiliate link> http://amzn.to/1WuhaVq I use tacky glue for all my craft projects but you could probably use Elmer’s glue if you have it on hand. Enjoy!
What size are / where did you get your plastic dessert cups? These are perfect for my little baby Finn’s first birthday party on July 5th! Party theme: shark fins 😉
Hi Caitlin, my dessert cups aren’t plastic they are glass and I have had them for years. I would suggest a plastic wine glass either with a stem or for young children the flat bottom kind. One tip I will give you is to make sure your spoons aren’t really tall compared to the depth of the cups. You don’t want the shark fin way above the cup. You will only have to fill that space with whip topping. Also, you can find water looking scrapbook papers at the craft stores to display the cups on. Hope your party is a big success!
What a fun idea! Thanks for sharing on the What’s for Dinner Sunday Link up!
