Easy Lime Jello Shots

There’s something about Lime Jello Shots that instantly reminds me of carefree summer nights and fun parties with friends.

I love how lime jello and lime rum mix together to create that fruity kick in the pants. They’re fun, refreshing, and honestly way too simple not to make.

My favorite part is topping them with whipped cream and a little lime wedge; it instantly makes them look party-ready. I like recipes that feel effortless but still impress, and these do exactly that.

Best Alcohol For Lime Jello Shots

When it comes to the best alcohol for Lime Jello Shots, I’ve tried a lot, and I have opinions!

I personally love using lime rum because it adds that sweet, tropical punch that feels like summer in a tiny cup. It’s fruity, it’s fun, and it makes the shots taste almost too easy to sip.

Lime vodka, though, is another favorite because it gives a sharper citrus kick that balances the sweetness perfectly.

I like to think of lime rum as my “pool party” option and lime vodka as my “let’s get this party started” choice. You can also experiment with tequila if you’re feeling bold; it turns your Lime Jello Shots into something that tastes a little like a margarita.

I tried it once, and everyone suddenly thought they were better dancers. Just don’t go overboard with the alcohol. I made that mistake once, and instead of fun little treats, I had cups of sad, runny lime soup.

My favorite trick is to stick with a flavored spirit that matches the jello, so everything blends perfectly instead of fighting for attention. I also like to sneak in a splash of orange liqueur sometimes because it makes the flavor a little deeper.

Whatever you choose, keep it simple, fruity, and something you’d actually enjoy drinking straight. That’s my golden rule for Lime Jello Shots that actually taste amazing instead of just tasting like regret!

How to Make Easy Lime Jello Shots for Summer Parties

These Lime Jello Shots are seriously the easiest and most fun party treat you’ll ever make. All you need is lime jello, your favorite alcohol (like lime rum or lime vodka), boiling water, and some cute little cups.

And these Tropical Jello Shots With Island Vibes are perfect for your summer party themes!

Flat lay of lime jello shot ingredients including a box of lime Jell-O, Bacardi Lime rum, fresh limes, a small glass bottle of water, a green spatula, a bowl of whipped cream, and a kitchen towel on a white surface.

I love that the process is quick because I’m not exactly patient when I’m excited for something sweet and boozy.

First, I grab a mixing bowl and dissolve the jello with the hot water until it’s perfectly smooth. Then comes the fun part, adding the rum or vodka and giving it a good stir. I like to line up the cups on a tray so I can fill them quickly without making a mess.

After that, they go straight into the fridge for a couple of hours while I pretend to be busy but really just check them every ten minutes.

Once they’re set, I love topping them with whipped cream and a little lime wedge because it makes them look fancy, even though they’re basically adult gummy snacks.

I once tried piping the whipped cream with a frosting bag just to see if it looked prettier, and it totally did; it’s my favorite way now. Just remember not to garnish if you’re storing them because whipped cream doesn’t hold up well in the fridge.

Keep the lids on, and they’ll stay perfect for up to four days. I like making them the night before a party because it saves time and makes me feel like I have my life together.

These Lime Jello Shots are proof that simple recipes can be the most fun, especially when they involve rum, lime, and zero stress.

Lime Jello Shots are an easy and delicious adult treat. Lime jello and lime rum are mixed together for a fruity kick in the pants. Top with some whipped cream and a lime wedge and you’re ready for some tasty fun.
Prep Time10 minutes
Rest Time2 hours
Course: Drinks
Keyword: lime jello shots
Servings: 10 2-Ounce Jello Shots

Ingredients

  • 1 Box Lime Jello 3 ounces
  • 1 Cup Boiling Water
  • Cup Lime Rum or Lime Vodka
  • Whipped Topping optional garnish
  • Fresh Lime Slices/Wedges optional garnish

Items Needed

  • 10 2-Ounce Shot Cups with Lids

Instructions

  • Line the shot cups up on a small platter, baking sheet, or something similar.
  • Combine the jello and boiling water in a medium mixing bowl and stir until all the jello has dissolved.
  • Add the lime rum (or vodka) and stir.
  • Fill all the shot cups, leaving a small space before the top.
  • Place in the fridge for 2 hours or until set.
  • Garnish with some whipped topping and a fresh lime wedge, if desired. Enjoy!

Notes

  • Do not garnish if storing. Store the shots with their lids on for up to 4 days. Do not freeze. Garnish when ready to serve.
  • Lime rum or vodka are my favorite options for this recipe. However, you can use whatever alcohol you prefer.
  • Be careful going over recommended alcohol amounts, as too much alcohol can cause the jello shots to not set.
  • I use an Ateco #824 frosting tip and a frosting bag to add the whipped topping to the shots. This simply makes it prettier and isn’t necessary.
