Jello Shot Christmas Tree

A jello shot Christmas tree is hands down one of the most festive ideas I’ve seen for holiday parties. It’s playful, colorful, and such a fun way to surprise your guests with a little holiday cheer.

I love how creative you can get with it, especially when mixing flavors or layering fun colors. For me, presentation is everything, and this idea definitely brings the wow factor to any holiday table.

My favorite part is how customizable it is—you can make it match your holiday theme perfectly. Red and green layers are classics, but adding sparkling sprinkles or little garnishes makes it even more magical.

I’ve tried plenty of jello shot ideas before, but stacking them into a tree shape feels next level. Plus, it is perfect to create for any of these adult Christmas party themes!

It’s one of those things people can’t resist photographing before they take a shot. I like that it doubles as both a drink and a decoration, which makes it even more fun.

Plus, it’s surprisingly simple to put together once you know the tricks. If you’re looking for something festive and memorable this year, a jello shot Christmas tree is such a must-try.

Trust me, it will be the star of your holiday party.

How to Make Your Jello Shot Christmas Tree Instagram-Worthy

Let’s be real, if your jello shot Christmas tree doesn’t end up on Instagram, did it even happen? Presentation is everything, and I love going all out when it comes to making mine look party-perfect.

For starters, placement is key—no one wants a sad, lopsided tree. I always arrange my shots in even rows, because symmetry makes everything instantly more photogenic.

I like using a festive tray or a glittery cake stand as the base because it adds some sparkle to the whole setup. Lighting is also a big deal. My favorite hack is adding a small string of fairy lights around the base for that magical glow.

Garnishes are where you can really have fun. I love topping a few shots with whipped cream swirls or edible glitter.

Sometimes I sprinkle crushed candy canes for instant holiday vibes. To make it pop in photos, I always scatter some fake snow or holiday confetti around the base.

A gold star on the very top is non-negotiable—it just screams Christmas magic. And here’s my secret: I snap a few photos before the party even starts, because once people see the tree, it disappears fast.

How to Make the Best Jello Shot Christmas Tree

Making the best jello shot Christmas tree feels like a holiday craft project I actually want to do. I start by making a green batch of jello shots, because nothing says Christmas tree like classic green.

I always set aside one small portion to dye brown for the tree trunk—it’s a tiny detail, but it makes me happy.

Once the shots are set, the real fun begins: arranging them into a tree shape. I like starting with a single cup at the top, then building wider rows as I go down.

My favorite part is decorating, because that’s when the tree comes to life. I use gold sprinkles for the star and scatter red sanding sugar on random cups as ornaments. Sometimes I even sneak in edible glitter for extra sparkle.

The whole thing looks so festive; people always gasp before they take a shot. I also love that it doubles as a centerpiece, making it both functional and fun. My best tip is not to garnish until right before serving, so everything looks fresh and party-ready. If you make it ahead, keep the lids on until showtime.

Trust me, once you set this tree out, it’ll disappear faster than Santa’s cookies.

Ingredients

Ingredients:

Items Needed:

  • 20 2 – Ounce Jello Shot Cups
  • Pourable Container I use a pourable glass measuring cup

Instructions

  • Place the jello and the boiling water in a medium or large mixing bowl. Stir until the jello is dissolved.
  • Add the vodka and stir again.
  • Pour 2 ounces of the jello into a separate glass or small bowl. Add the drop of brown dye and stir. Add more brown dye if needed, but one drop should be plenty.
  • Pour the brown jello into one of the jello shot cups.
  • Fill the rest of the 19 cups with the green jello.
  • Chill in the fridge for 2 hours or until set.
  • Assemble in the shape of a Christmas tree starting with one cup, the second line has one cup, the third line will have two cups, fourth line three cups, lines five through seven will have four cups each, and the last line will be the one brown cup that goes in the bottom middle.
  • Place the star sprinkles in the top, first cup, then sprinkle 5 random green cups with the red sanding sugar to signify ornaments on the tree.
  • Serve and enjoy!

Notes

Tips:
  • Do not garnish if storing in the fridge. Only garnish when ready to serve.
  • If you would like to make these ahead of time, you’ll want to place the lids on them and store them in the fridge for up to 3 days in advance. Do not freeze.
  • Do not fill these all the way to the top if you are planning on storing them in the fridge as the lid will make little divots in the top of the jello, which makes it look bad.
  • You can use flavored vodka, if you prefer.
