Why Do We Sprinkle It In The Yard On Christmas Eve?
Reindeer food is a popular Christmas tradition in many parts of the world. The practice of putting out food for Santa’s reindeer dates back to the early days of the Christmas holiday when European children would leave out hay and carrots for the reindeer that pulled Santa’s sleigh.
Today, reindeer food is usually made from a mix of oats, glitter, and sprinkles. The sparkle of the glitter is said to help guide the reindeer to the house, and the oats provide a nutritious snack for the long journey.
What Makes Reindeer Food Not Safe For Animals?
GLITTER!
While it may seem harmless, glitter is actually quite dangerous for animals. Ingested glitter can cause blockages in the digestive system and even lead to death.
In addition, glitter is made from metals and plastic, which means that it will take years to decompose in the environment. For these reasons, it’s best to avoid using traditional glitter in reindeer food and substitute it with edible glitter and food-safe sprinkles.
