Step-by-Step Instructions for Your Popsicle Pencil Stick Craft

Follow these quick and easy steps to make your own popsicle stick pencil craft. In just a few minutes, you’ll have a fun back-to-school decoration or gift ready to go!

Step One: Gather all your supplies and get your craft station ready. To start your pencil, line up three jumbo craft sticks like they’re standing in a school photo—nice and straight. 

Then, trim another stick to fit across the back as a support beam and glue it on. If you’re like me and can’t wait, use a glue gun for instant results. If you’re feeling patient, craft glue works too—you’ll just need to let it dry.

Step Two: Time to give your pencil a bright, happy basecoat. Paint the entire surface with gold or sunny yellow acrylic paint. Let it dry completely, then give it a second coat so it really pops. If you want to get creative, you can even color the sticks with markers, crayons, or colored pencils.

Step Three: Print and cut out your pencil patterns. Trace the pencil top onto brown paper, the eraser onto pink paper, and the cuff onto grey paper.

Step Four: Carefully cut out all the traced pieces. This is where neat scissors work pays off!

Step Five: Now for the fun part—faces! Glue on two wiggle eyes, then dip a new pencil eraser into pink paint and gently stamp rosy cheeks on both sides.

Step Six: Glue the grey cuff onto the pink eraser piece, then attach it to the bottom of your pencil. Glue the brown pencil top to the other end.

Step Seven: Use a black marker to draw a big, happy smile. Add the pencil point, a little detail on the cuff, and vertical lines to complete the look.
