What Is A Twinkie Cake

A Twinkie cake is basically a really easy hack that makes a layered cake in just minutes. Instead of baking multiple cakes and layering them on top of each other with frosting, you just place Twinkies inside the strawberry cake batter.

It’s a really fun way for kids to make the cake too! They love placing the twinkies in the pink cake batter.

How To Make An Easy Strawberry Twinkie Cake

All of the exact steps are in the printable recipe card at the bottom of this post. First, I am going to share some extra tips – including the tools that made this cake even easier to bake.

Tools and Supplies Needed

These are the tools that really sped up the entire cake-making process.

Ingredients

All the ingredient amounts are listed in the printable recipe card. Here’s a quick overview of what you’ll need from the store.

Strawberry Twinkie Cake Tips

If you are ready to bake the cake, then scroll on down to the recipe card. First, I’m going to share a few extra tips. These are questions people usually ask, see if your question made the list!

How do you prevent the cake from sticking to the pan?

I spray with Pam baking spray. Any type of non-stick spray will work. I have also heard of people spreading melted butter in the pan and then dusting it with flour.

You could also line your baking dish with parchment paper.

Place Twinkies In Layers

When you add the Twinkies to the cake batter in the pan, do it in layers – as if you are making a layered cake.

So, pour half of the cake batter in the bottom of the dish first. Then, place the Twinkies in the batter. Then, cover the Twinkies with the other half of the batter.

Bake The Cake

It usually takes 30-40 minutes for the cake to bake. You’ll know it is finished when you insert a toothpick into the center of the cake and it comes out clean.

Let it cool off completely before adding the frosting.

How To Make Homemade Strawberry Frosting

While you are waiting for the cake to cool off, make the homemade frosting. I prefer to make buttercream frosting at home because it has the best taste and spreads on really smooth.

I always use a stand mixer. If you don’t have one, get one. It is so much easier to mix everything when the mixer does all the work.

How To Make Homemade Whipped Cream Topping

The last step is to make some whipped cream! You’ll definitely want a stand mixer for this part. You need to beat the heavy whipping cream and powdered sugar together until stiff peaks form. This takes quite a bit of time and it’s easier to just set the stand mixer and let it work.

Decorate With Whipped Cream and Strawberries

When it’s ready, scoop the whipped cream into a piping bag. If you don’t have a piping bag, you can use a Ziploc bag and just snip the end off of one of the corners.

Pipe little dollops of whipped cream onto your cake and top with fresh, sliced strawberries.

How To Store Strawberry Cake With Homemade Frosting

Since you made homemade frosting, you’ll need to keep this cake refrigerated. It’s best to cover it completely too, in order to seal out the air.

It will stay fresh in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.
