How to Make Lemon Grilled Shrimp
I have the complete directions in the recipe card at the bottom of this post. But first, here is a quick overview as well as some answers to your biggest questions.
Recipe Overview
This is pretty simple! All you need to do is:
- Prepare the grill for medium (350-450 degrees) direct heat.
- In a small bowl mix olive oil, lemon juice, salt, pepper, Italian seasoning, garlic, and parsley.
- Add shrimp. Cover and place in the fridge for 10 minutes up to an hour.
- Place shrimp on skewers for grilling.
- Cook shrimp approximately 3-4 minutes on each side with the grill cover on, being careful not to overcook. The shrimp should be white and opaque when done cooking.
- Remove from grill and top with additional fresh parsley or lemon if desired.
How to Devein Shrimp
If you want a shortcut, just buy shrimp that is already peeled and deveined. This isn’t cheap, so if you want to save a bit of money, you can devein the shrimp yourself.
It’s more time consuming than it is difficult. This video shows you how to do it.
What is Medium Heat on a Charcoal Grill?
It can be tough to know the temperature and levels when you are using a charcoal grill.
To accurately gauge medium-high heat on a charcoal grill, use a grill thermometer or leave the bottom vent fully open and the top vent on the lid open.
Then, just use the top vent to adjust the temperature.
How to Prevent Wood Skewers from Getting Charred
If you are using wood skewers for your shrimp, soak them in water first. This will prevent them from burning.
Avoid Rubbery Shrimp
Cook the shrimp just until done to avoid a rubbery texture. If you overcook it, you won’t like the results.
What to Serve with Grilled Lemon Garlic Shrimp
This shrimp is great over rice, noodles or greens! Serve with summer green veggies or a fresh garden salad.
