Vintage Luau Party Style
This Vintage Luau party was a perfect way to say goodbye to summer. I thought it would be nice to have a softer color palette than the usual bright luau colors – pinks, turquoise and gold in different patterns helped to pull off my look. Hope you enjoy my Vintage Luau Party Style!
I found fun honeycomb hula girl straws and party pics that I also used to decorate my wine glasses and cake pops. Some of the other decorations used were vintage metal serving trays, brass candle sticks, dried pineapples and lots of palm leaves.
The signature drink was a Lava Colada! I used premixed Pina Colada mix {including the alcohol} for the base of my drink. Then pureed a large container of strawberries that I poured from a pitcher to top off my drink. It is important to serve the pina colada in a clear glass and see the strawberry puree run down the sides – watch the Lava Flow!
The food table backdrop was made by tying together bamboo sticks and stringing a set of big leaf drapery sheers I own across the top. The cardboard letters were covered with scrapbook paper and hung from the bamboo using twine. I love using a mix of water-washed prints and textures to complete the look of my table.
I made all of the decorations myself including the signs, lights and food tablescape! I bought inexpensive silk flowers and took them apart, cut a small slit at the center and placed them around a string of white twinkle lights as well as the overhead globe lights! A great festive touch.
I repurposed a pretty turquoise picture frame for my drink sign. The sign type I printed from my computer and mounted it to a piece of soft floral print scrapbook paper…added a little starfish to the frame.
UPDATE! My Vintage Luau Party was featured on the Hostess with the Mostess Blog!
Can you give the details on how you covered the cardboard letters in paper?
Hi Jennifer,
I bought the letters at Joann Fabrics…they are three dimensional and a light card board weight. I used a few sheets of pretty scrapbook paper to cover them. Using a pencil, I turned the scrapbook paper over to the blank side, and traced the letters…then cut them out with scissors or x-acto knife. I used a spray adhesive glue (or spray mount) to attach the paper to the letters. This can also be found at Joann Fabrics. Hope this helps!
I love this vintage Luau!
Thanks Heather, It was a lot of fun to style!
Very cute! Love the way you photoed it! Stopping over from Birds Party!
Thanks, Melissa, for stopping by!
Super cute! I love the vintage feel!
Thanks, it was a lovely party!
I love this – the more muted colour palette really lends itself well to the vintage feel, and I love the photography you’ve done.
I would love to invite you to share this at my link party at The Purple Pumpkin Blog. Look forward to seeing you there! xoxo
Such a cute party! I have always wanted to throw a luau! Love what you did with the bar!
Thanks so much Kristin! The Luau Party was a fun theme for the summer…guests loved it!
This looks SO fun! I love the decor! You should come and share at our Pinworthy Projects party going on now.
Such a pretty theme. I wanted to know how you printed the “Take a Lei” sign. I love it. Where can I get it?
I made the Take a Lei sign. I created the type on my computer and printed it out. I believe the floral background is a piece of square scrapbook paper from Michael’s or Joann Fabric. I freehand cut the shapes of the paper and used spray mount to glue them together. Hope this helps…
Oh that’s cool. Did you use Microsoft word. I tried replicating it but I couldn’t. 🙁 thanks for sharing.
I’m sorry you couldn’t get it to work. I actually created the type in a greeting card program and printed it out. Then attached it to floral scrapbook paper. Have a great party!
Hi looking for this sign! I know you made it anyway you can make and ship this out to me this week? I can send Zelle payment gender reveal party is next Sunday.
Thanks!
