These fruit ice cubes have are patriotic but fun to make all summer long. Made into stars these ice cubes are made with watermelon and blueberries.
What is the best fruit to use to make ice cubes?
Most all fruits freeze well so pick your favorites or choose ones that complement the drink you are placing them in.
These berries work well because they are small enough to fit into most ice cube trays.
- raspberries
- blueberries
- blackberries
These fruits also work well but consider dicing into smaller pieces…
- strawberries
- kiwi
- oranges
- mango
- watermelon
Also, lemons, limes and mint make up pretty ice cubes as well!
Supplies:
- Ice Cube Tray
- Cookie Cutter If Creating Shapes
- Fresh Fruit
- Water
They can be made in any shape ice cube tray, but I chose to use my Wilton Mini Star Silicone Mold that I bought to make these Patriotic Frozen Yogurt Stars.
If you are using the star mold make sure you star cookie cutter is the same size as or smaller than the bottom of the same mold. Cut the watermelon in 1/4″ slices. Use the cookie cutter to cut out watermelon {star} shapes. Place in the bottom of the mold and top with blueberries. Then cover with water and freeze. I recommend making these a couple of days before your get-together or party as you can only make six at a time.
There is also the option to use a standard ice cube tray and cut fruit into small chunks or use mini cookie cutters for small shapes.
The star cubes are easy to remove from the silicone mold and can be kept in a freezer bag until ready to use. Perfect for all your summer entertaining needs!
