This Stars and Stripes Patriotic Popcorn is one of those treats that is so easy to make – perfect for all the Patriotic Holidays though out the year! I love the sweet of the candy against the saltiness of the popcorn. Got to love the Red, White and Blue!
It’s almost silly to think of it as a recipe, but I included one you can print out below. Let’s see how to make it…
Supplies: Popcorn {either pre-made in bag or microwave popcorn} | Red Candy Melts | Blue Candy Melts | Patriotic Star Sprinkles | Cupcake Liners and Flags { mine are from Dollar Tree} | Small Sandwich Ziplock Bags
Cover a baking pan with foil and spread out the desired amount of popcorn.
You will need two microwave safe bowls. One for the red candy melts and one for the blue…two spoons too! Melt about 3/4 of a cup of red candy melts in the first bowl. I usually set the microwave for 1 minutes then open it up and give the candy melts a stir. Then microwave again for 30 seconds and stir again. If more time is need to completely melt the candy melts use 10 second increments.
Once melted, carfully remove the bowl from the microwave using an oven mitt. The bowl will be very hot. Use a spatula or spoon to scoop the soft chocolate into a ziplock bag. Be careful it could be hot to the touch. Cut a small hole in the corner of the bag and drizzle back and fourth across the popcorn. Repeat with the blue candy melts.
Before the chocolate hardens quickly sprinkle the red, white and blue stars over the popcorn. Set aside until the chocolate is hard. Gently break apart the popcorn and place into baking cups. Decorate with the flag picks. Store in an airtight container. Enjoy!
