It’s that time of year. Seems like we just put up the Christmas decorations and here it is time to take them back down! I wanted to share my Easy Ways to Store Holiday Garland that makes it so simple to put them back up next year. I like to keep everything simple. I know you do too!

You will need one or two large plastic storage bins. My entire garland fits in one box as it is not very fluffy.
First, I remove all bows and silk poinsettias and set them aside. I usually start at the top and remove the velcro garland tie I shared in my last post How to Hang Garland on a Staircase Banister. I really LOVE these Velcro Garland Ties because it is easy to secure together and can be used from year to year. Once I have it removed, I reattach it to itself and leave it in the exact place on the garland where it was attached to the railing. On my garland, I have four Velcro Garland Ties attached that go in the box. I also leave all of the lights attached as well. Then in a circular motion, I layer the garland in the bin. I even leave the extension cord attached so I don’t have to go searching for it next year. Gently place bows on top and then the lid.
Takeaway tips…
- Leave lights, garland ties and the extension cord attached to the garland.
- Layer the garland in a circular motion into the box.
- Place bows on top.
A few easy steps ensure an easy setup for next year!

Thanks Susan, I was wondering how I was going to attach my porch rail garland! I hadn’t even thought about storing it later! I have put my large bows in a big plastic leaf bag, and store this on top of all the containers, boxes, etc. then next year, mostly all the bows need is re- fluffing,
Garland and bows can be so bulky to store. This has worked well for me for years and it is so easy to put up from year to year. I am all for easy decorating!
