Glitter Indian Corn Place Cards

I have finally started to think about Thanksgiving and how I might set and decorate the dinner table.  Thanksgiving to me feels like it should be more rustic this year I am so into the look of metals! Gold and silver accents always look great, but for some reason, I am into the copper and bronze colors! Loving all things shiny and sparkly I, of course, can’t get enough of glitter!

A few weeks ago I was at a local farmers market and picked up a few large and small ears of Indian corn. I knew I wanted to incorporate them into my Thanksgiving table decor but didn’t really have anything in mind. Knowing I wanted to make them sparkle, I picked up some glitter and a metallic bronze craft paint creating these Glitter Indian Corn Place Cards!

SUPPLIES

Small Indian Corn  |  Copper Metallic Paint  |  Glitter  |  Mod Podge  |  Cream Colored Paper  |  Paint Brush  |  Paper Plate

First, paint the corn with the metallic paint. Be careful to not get it on the husk and let dry.

It is not 100 percent necessary to paint the corn with the metallic paint before adding the glitter, but if your corn is variegated with dark colors like one of mine, it helps to mask those deep shades. If all of the corn is light colored, go ahead and coat with the Mod Podge first.

Coat the corn with Mod Podge, hold it over the plate and sprinkle it with the glitter. Turn and rotate until the corn is completely covered. Work fast before the Mod Podge dries. Go back and apply more if necessary. Set it aside to dry.

I always have a second paper plate or piece of paper handy to dump and reuse any access glitter.

In the picture, you can see that I bought a container with four different metal glitters…so feel free to mix up the colors on the table!

While my Indian corn dried, I headed to the computer to print out my names. I use Microsoft Word to create the names. This font is Edwardian Script, and the point size is 60pt. Also, change the color of the font to brown.

On an extra piece, of paper I sketched out a “husk” shape and made myself a templet. Then laid that over my printed names roughly centering it tracing the shape. They were easy to cut out!

Gently slide the name under the first layer of the husk. They stayed there fairly well without any glue.

Glitter can get onto everything, so I don’t recommend placing these on a plate, but maybe above the plate on a pretty burlap table runner. Best to keep them away from the food!
