How To Get Rid Of Fruit Flies
How To Get Rid Of Fruit Flies – Try this quick and EASY way to make a Fruit Fly Trap…works like a charm! It takes just a few minutes to build this Fruit Fly Trap and it is very effective for getting rid of these pests! Last year, through most of the winter, I was {and I hate to say this} a little infested with fruit flies.
They were circling my head as I was lying in bed, they were flying in front of my computer as I worked on my blog…they were just everywhere they shouldn’t have been and I had no fruit sitting out for months. I couldn’t figure out where they were coming from? So, I did a little research.
It turns out they can nest in drains, in kitchen sponges or damp washcloths and other places besides fruit. Well, that freaked me out! I made sure I nothing damp lying around and poured bleach slowly down my drains repeatedly for a month. Finally, they were gone!
Last week I had a whole pineapple sitting on my kitchen counter that was relatively fresh, but I noticed it looks a little brown at the top and reached to inspect it. A swarm of fruit flies flew off of it, once again, freaking me out! I immediately took it outside, but knew what remained in my kitchen were the flies. I instantly went to this easy solution that I had found in my research last winter…this paper cone in a glass solution – worked perfectly!
How To Get Rid Of Fruit Flies
Here’s what you need…
A kitchen glass, a piece of paper, masking tape and something to attract the flies to the cup. I used a little bit of wine that I had open and it worked like a charm. Other recommendations are apple cider vinegar or even a piece of rotting fruit. Simply, roll the piece of paper into a cone, trimming any excess from the top and secure with a piece of tape. The cone should not touch the liquid at the bottom.
I left this out on my counter for two days, occasionally taking it outside, to let them go. A few of them never made it out of the wine!

I am happy to share this – I created a new one a few days ago as I had a few new fruit flies around – I am amazed at how well it catches them! I think the wine is the trick!
I have to try that!
