Candy Crab Cupcakes
I made these easy to make Candy Crab Cupcakes a few years ago for a party. I hosted this Crab Shack Party and made these adorable crab cupcakes using a crab ice cube tray I found at a dollar store. These Candy Crab Cupcakes are great for any beach/nautical party theme! I love them for an Under the Sea party too. They were easy to make and so cute!
When pressed for time, I find it easier to decorate store bought cupcakes. Don’t you love a good theme party? Give these a try for your next beach or pool party!
I have a few more beachy themed desserts at the bottom of this page…don’t miss them!

POST UPDATE: This crab candy mold is no longer available. I know I am sad too…
There are some other crab candy mold options on Amazon HERE. See if you can find something else that might work for your crab cupcakes. They would still be really cute with any type of candy crabs!
The instructions below should still apply.
Red Candy Melts | Crab Candy Mold | Light Brown Sugar | Black Gel Icing
Cupcakes can be store bought or use a mix to make your own.
I used red candy melts and a silicone ice cube tray. Other options on Amazon.
Melt the candy melts in the microwave in a microwave-safe dish. I like to melt the candy melts in 20-second increments and stir in between until smooth. You don’t want to overcook them. Then spoon into the tray. Give the tray a shake to settle the chocolate in the mold.
Then place the ice cube tray in the freezer. I left the trays in for a couple of hours, but they just need to be hardened. I then removed them from the freezer and let the ice cube trays warm to room temperature. Turn the tray over and the chocolates pop out – you may need to work it a little!
I kept the chocolate crabs in the refrigerator until I was ready to serve the cupcakes. They became a little soft with the warmer temperatures. A tube of Wilton black icing worked well for creating the eyes. Brown sugar sprinkled on top of the icing, made perfect “sand” underneath the crabs. And it’s edible of course!
I would love to know where you found those crab molds! I have been looking all over for some like that for my son’s first birthday party!
Which dollar store was it?
Where did you find the ice cube trays? I have looked everywhere and can’t find them.
Hi Sheila, this crab ice cube tray is from a local dollars store that I bought several years ago. I can’t find it anywhere online. However, there are these candy molds on Amazon that might be similar here https://amzn.to/2HDOqp7 (affiliate link). I think that is going to be your only option. Good luck!
