DIY Garden Decor – Teacup Garden Stake
This Wire Teacup Garden Stake was so easy to make and a perfect addition to my garden – easy DIY Garden Decor! I was thrifting at a local Goodwill a few weeks back and came across this fabulous oversized copper wire teacup.
I looked at it once then came back to it for a second look. As I examined it, seeing that the price was $1.99, I thought…perfect garden stake. And yes it is just that – a perfect Teacup Garden Stake!
Even one of the Goodwill employees commented on my great teacup find as I waited in line! I was thrilled!

I have been trying to figure out just what it might have been used for before being discarded. My thought was it was hanging on someone’s kitchen wall in the 70s along with a wild avocado-colored wallpaper! Do you have any idea what the original purpose of this teacup would be? I would love to hear your thoughts!
The first thing I did was go to the hardware store and pick up a 3′ copper pipe and copper end cap along with epoxy glue. Make sure the cap is the right size for the pipe. I used a little sandpaper to rough up the surface of the cap and glued it to the teacup with epoxy. I secured it with a few pieces of masking tape. I let it dry overnight.
I thought it would look cute to add some colorful bead accents to the teacup…just for fun! I strung and attached the beads to the teacup with copper beading wire. To finish off the project, I lined the wire cup with moss, fill it with garden soil and planted the pansies! A perfect DIY garden decor treasure!

I think your planter is just adorable and would imagine it was originally hand made for someone to perhaps hold an African violet or other houseplant. Copper was big back in the 70’s, wish I had kept some of the things I had back then.

I know this post is an older one, but I googled wire tea cups and the screen exploded. Im willing to bet that this was a gift to an In-Law who doesnt garden. This is very fashionable, at least now it is…maybe this post in 2013 started it all!
