DIY Fabric Heart Pin
Growing up in an artistic family has made me appreciate the beauty of handmade items. My father was an industrial designer and a watercolor painter on the side. I have fond memories of attending many art shows and gallery openings that included my father’s paintings and all things made by local artists… all so talented.
Many years ago my dad picked out this DIY Fabric Heart Pin for me. It’s not a traditional Valentine’s pin…but that is when I love to wear it. It brings me fond memories of my dad – a special gift selected just by him!
Because I adore my heart pin so much, I thought I would share how you can make one too!
Pick a favorite fabric of your choice and cut out a heart shape. Find a template if you need one and trace it on the back side of the fabric. While this pin has a plain fabric for the back, you could use the same for both sides.
Sew the two hearts together either by hand or on a sewing machine. Then stuff with fiberfill. If you don’t want to buy a large bag of fiberfill, you could use another soft fabric…possibly cotton balls {wink!}
Once the heart is sewn shut, string a longish strand of seed beads. Starting at the top of the heart, on one side, evenly attach the string of beads to the back of the heart using a needle and thread. Then attach a pin back to the back of the heart!
A perfect gift for a special Valentine! Get creative and design your own!
It’s quite lovely!
Oh thank you, Diana! Thanks for linking to Whimsy Wednesday!
