Flag Mason Jar Candle Holder

I love summer. Well, who doesn’t?  For some reason, I find red, white and blue decor something you can use all through the summer not just on Memorial Day, the 4th of July or Labor Day. I enjoy driving through communities’ flag-lined streets or families proudly displaying flags on their homes. Besides charming, it brings out the patriotic spirit in us all!

I created this super easy Flag Mason Jar Candle Holder that I am sharing on Clinton Kelly’s website {from the Chew} along with a few other fabulous bloggers – 5 Ways to Make Your Fourth of July More Fabulous! So, if you’re in need of amazing Easy Decorating Ideas for the 4th of July…check them out!

What I love about this mason jar craft, is that it can be a double duty decoration – it can also be used as a vase. Just add flowers!

SUPPLIES: Red Transparent Mason Jar (from Joann Fabric’s)  | 2 Mini Flags  |  Jute  |  Spray Mount

Take a pointy object like manicure scissors, seem riper or a nail file and slide the point under each flag staple. Lift slowly to remove the staple without damaging the flag. Spray the back of each flag with the spray mount and carefully apply to the mason jar.

Try to match the seams on both sides, but they might not be perfect – that’s okay! Wrap the jute string around the top of the jar a couple of times and tie in a knot.

I have a link party that I am trying to grow. I invite you to share this idea (and a couple of others) at my Grandma Ideas Sharing Time link up at http://grandmaideas.com. I think my readers would LOVE this idea, too.

  2. this is awesome – even a craft-challenged person like me can do this! Oh, and our neighborhood grocery store just reduced all of their little flags, perfect! Blessings!

  3. My son is leaving for the Marine Corps soon and these would be perfect for his going away party. What size jars and flags did you use?

  4. Thanks. I was reading this post and thought – Father’s Day is coming. Instead of a flag why not decoupage the kids’ face to the front! Is my tiredness showing? Dumb idea? I don’t know but still I think it sounds neat.

my other thought was to take a unscented candle and put some kind of essential oil on it that keeps mosquitos away and adding those to the jar for fathers day…. I’d use it!

    1. Hi April, I used two flags on my jar. I think it depends on the size of the jar as well. So if one flag is too small and two is too big then possibly trim the strips side of the flags down so you can use two flags but they don’t overlap. I hope that makes sense. Let me know if you need more help.
