Instructions– Start with making the simple syrup by placing equal parts of water and sugar in a small saucepan. Warm over medium heat stirring until the sugar dissolves. Let cool.– Use fresh-squeezed lime juice if possible or bottled if you are short on time.
– Fill a lowball glass with ice.– In a shaker add 1.5 oz tequila (more if you’d like a stronger drink), Cointreau liqueur, lime juice and simple syrup– shake.
– Place coarse salt on a plate. Rim glass with the juice of a lime then dip into salt. Pour over ice into a plan or salt-rimmed glass.– Garnish with a lime wedge, if desired.
