  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp butter melted
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar packed
  • 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg

Apple Crisp Topping

  • 1 cup oats rolled or old-fashioned
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup sliced almonds
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 stick melted butter

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350° and grease or spray an 8-inch or 9-inch casserole or baking dish.
  • Place the diced apples and the lemon juice in a large mixing bowl and toss to coat.
  • Add the melted butter, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Toss again to coat evenly.
  • Pour the apple filling into your prepared baking dish. Spread evenly and set aside.
  • To make the crisp topping, place the oats, flour, sugar, almonds (if using), cinnamon, and salt in a bowl. Stir to combine.
  • Pour the melted butter over the ingredients in the bowl and stir until thoroughly combined.
  • Spoon the topping over the apple filling and gently spread until the filling is covered evenly.
  • Bake for 45-55 minutes or until the crisp topping is lightly browned and the filling is bubbly and warm.
  • Serve warm, as is, or top with vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce and enjoy!

Notes

For a dairy-free version, use a melted dairy-free/vegan butter substitute such as Earth Balance or Country Crock Plant Butter. Serve with your favorite dairy-free ice cream.
