Apple Crisp Filling
8 applesmedium-sized, rinsed, peeled, cored, and diced small
1/4cuplemon juice
2tbspbuttermelted
1/2cupbrown sugarpacked
1tbspall-purpose flour
1 tspground cinnamon
1/4tspnutmeg
Apple Crisp Topping
1cupoatsrolled or old-fashioned
3/4cupall-purpose flour
1/2cupgranulated sugar
1/2cupsliced almonds
1tspground cinnamon
1/4 tspsalt
1stickmelted butter
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350° and grease or spray an 8-inch or 9-inch casserole or baking dish.
Place the diced apples and the lemon juice in a large mixing bowl and toss to coat.
Add the melted butter, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Toss again to coat evenly.
Pour the apple filling into your prepared baking dish. Spread evenly and set aside.
To make the crisp topping, place the oats, flour, sugar, almonds (if using), cinnamon, and salt in a bowl. Stir to combine.
Pour the melted butter over the ingredients in the bowl and stir until thoroughly combined.
Spoon the topping over the apple filling and gently spread until the filling is covered evenly.
Bake for 45-55 minutes or until the crisp topping is lightly browned and the filling is bubbly and warm.
Serve warm, as is, or top with vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce and enjoy!
Notes
For a dairy-free version, use a melted dairy-free/vegan butter substitute such as Earth Balance or Country Crock Plant Butter. Serve with your favorite dairy-free ice cream.
