Glass
- 1.5 ounces Tequila
- 1 ounce Cointreau or another orange liqueur
- 1 ounce Fresh-Squeezed Lime Juice
- 1/2 ounce Simple Syrup
- Lime
- Ice
- Coarse Salt
Start with making the simple syrup by placing equal parts of water and sugar in a small saucepan. I used 1/2 cup of water and 1/2 sugar. Warm over medium heat stirring until the sugar dissolves. Let cool.
Use fresh-squeezed lime juice if possible or bottled if you are short on time. Be sure to buy enough limes to add to the margarita as well to garnish the glass.
Fill a lowball glass with ice.
In a shaker add 1.5 oz tequila (more if you’d like a stronger drink), Cointreau liqueur, lime juice and simple syrup – shake.
Place coarse salt on a plate. Rim glass with the juice of a lime then dip into salt. Pour over ice into a plan or salt-rimmed glass.
Garnish with a lime wedge, if desired.
