Yarn Bombing The Andy Warhol Bridge

I went on a little adventure last week to see the largest yarn bombing in the United States. Yarn Bombing The Andy Warhol Bridge was a collective effort of many communities around the Pittsburgh area. For those going to work each day, boating on the three rivers or taking a walk at lunch…this was something to see. It was a massive art installation made up of 580 knitted or crocheted afghan size blankets. No two were the same. Unfortunately, this exhibition is soon to be de-installed on September 6th. The panels are to be laundered and donated to nursing homes and shelters. So glad I had the opportunity to see it!

The large panels at the top of the bridge were machine made as well as the black panels that wrapped around the railings. All of the other panels were hand knit (some crocheted) by volunteers and those who wanted to be part of this extraordinary effort! The panels were then stitched and attached to the bridge!
