I am very excited to share my Halloween costumes from last year…maybe you caught them on Instagram?! There is a little story behind them that really didn’t have anything to do with the candy bar but the size of the bar – “FUN SIZE!” At 5′ tall, my friends have come to calling me…you got it…Fun Size! And there you have it…I began my quest to make DIY Candy Bar Halloween Costumes!
Truthfully, I did set out to buy them, but there were none to be found. While I thought they would be easy to make, they did take a little time. Hopefully, with me providing letter templates (at the bottom) and a few tips, they will not take as long to make.

SUPPLIES: Buy supplies according to the colors needed for each candy bar costume.
Felt – 5-6 yards of brown or blue felt depending on how tall you are. Felt is relatively cheap, so don’t skimp on the yardage.
Snickers costume – 2 yards of red, white and blue felt. Crunch bar costume – 2 yards of red and white felt plus 1 yard of yellow felt.
I happen to have the sparkly fabric that is in the oval around the “fun size” lettering in my costume. Two feet would be plenty if you want to purchase an extra piece of fabric.
Matching color thread, fabric glue, sharp scissors and a sewing machine will also be needed.
Costume Sizing: I am 5 feet tall – my costume measured 25″ x 48″ and the Snickers Logo down the front was 41 inches.
My husband is 6 feet tall – his costume is 34″ x 53″ and the Crunch logo down the front is 46 inches.
INSTRUCTIONS:
Fold brown or blue felt in half cutting it into two equal pieces. I made myself a 2-inch triangle template for my zig-zag top and bottom of the wrapper. First, draw a straight line 2 inches down from one end and sew across that line. Use the triangle template to cut along the edge of the felt. Some fudging might have to be done to make it somewhat even – it will look fine even if it is not exact. For the neck area, cut an oval shape, not a circle. A circle will interfere with the lettering down the front, and the opening around the neck will be way too large.
Turn the costume inside out and run seems down both sides of the costume. Leave at least 12″ for the armhole possibly more depending on the size of the person wearing it. You need much more room for the arms to freely move than you might think! Turn the costume back to the right side out.
Next print out the letters. Both the Crunch and Snickers letters are in the same downloadable file.

Trim the letters out of the paper and pin them to the felt. Repeat trimming the letters out of the felt. I then laid the letters on the logo background felt color matching the letter spacing. Once I got them positioned correctly, I used a yardstick to draw out the shape of the logo and trimmed it with scissors. Glue the letters to the background felt then glue the logo to the costume.
For the crackle in the Crunch Bar, I cut a few extra jagged felt pieces and glued them on separately.
I hate to say this, but the “Fun Size” and “King Size” type were cut out of paper using a Cricket machine. Possibly borrow one or look in a craft store for press and stick letters. Possibly don’t use them at all! {wink}
