Burlap Letter Wooden Sign For Valentine’s Day
I love the idea behind this fun burlap letter wooden sign just in time for Valentine’s Day! It’s such a cute idea that uses basic wood scraps, some foam letters, and burlap to create a statement of love everyone will enjoy!
Hello! It is Mindi from MyLove2Create, and I am so excited to share my Love Valentine’s Day Burlap Sign with you today!
Burlap Letter Wooden Sign For Valentine’s Day
Susan always has such great projects here at Oh My! Creative, and I am hoping this wooden sign for Valentine’s Day adds just one more to the mix! Anyone can make these fun letters out of simple foam core and burlap. Oh, and of course, lots of hot glue.
Materials Needed:
- 4 wooden blocks (scrap lumber or cut to order)
- Wood stain of choice
- Foam
- Burlap
- Red Sharpie
- Red Ribbon
- Stapler (heavy duty)
- Hot Glue or E6000 Glue
I love to make things out of wood so I used wood scraps to mount my letters on, but you could use whatever floats your boat. While the base of this wooden sign is simple, the real focus is in the burlap covered letters that spell Love. You could easily adapt this to have initials or any other word of importance!
I stained the wood with Rustoleum’s Kona because it is so pretty! First, I applied wood conditioner (it helps the stain go on evenly for soft woods, like my pine boards), then I used an old sock to put on the stain. I used another old sock to rub off the excess stain. It only takes one hour for this stain to dry, so I set to work finding a font.
I ended up with a font called capitals and set them to the size just smaller than my wood blocks. I just found a clip art heart to use instead of an O. I printed them out and colored the back of each letter with pencil lines. This just makes it easier to cut them out on the foam.
I used an Exato knife and cut them out, I made sure to flip it over and cut through the parts that I didn’t catch from the front. After that, it is easy to pop out the foam core letters.
I glued each letter onto the burlap upside down, and then snipped parts and hot glued them to the back in small sections. This part takes a little time, but it is not bad, I just listened to my book on my phone while I did it! Just be extra careful when using hot glue with burlap since it has small openings and you could easily burn your fingers.
It is so worth it! I was just testing them out here, but I ended up hot gluing them onto the boards.
For fun, I added a few grain sack stripes on the heart. I wanted it to match the red ribbon I found in my stash that will attach the boards together. It was super easy to do the stripes with a sharpie paint pen, but you could use regular paint as well. Whatever you prefer will work on this fun wooden sign with cute buralp letters!
After gluing the letters onto the boards, I flipped them over and stapled on some ribbon. I added a bow to the top and hot glued on some twine so I can hang it on a nail. All done!
It was was the perfect wooden sign for a blank wall in my kitchen, plus just in time for Valentine’s day! It won’t hurt to have a reminder to have a little more love in my home either!
I am loving the grain sack heart.
This burlap letter wooden sign for Valentine’s Day is super easy and cute! Wouldn’t it be fun to do a really large letter or a fun shape? The possibilities are endless, so go and get creative!
