DIY Pallet Plaques

It’s Katie from View From The Fridge back this month with a fun DIY project to try this winter … DIY Pallet Plaques.

They’re sort of a glorified clipboard made to look rustic and worn and can be used to show off your photos or artwork.

SUPPLIES DIY PALLET PLAQUES

Here’s what you’ll need for each plaque:

  • 1 piece of 1/2″ x 3″ x 36″ craft boards (I got mine at Lowe’s).
  • 1 piece of 1/2″ x 2″ x 36″ craft board (you’ll only need about 16″ of the board for each plaque)
  • Wood Glue
  • Sander or sandpaper
  • Chalk paint craft paint, or stain depending on the look you’re going for.
  • Bulldog Clips
  • Small 1/2″ – 3/4″ long screws
  • Saw (I simply used a handsaw to cut through the boards)
  • Jute rope | twine | ribbon | yarn to make a hanger for your pallet.
  • Staple gun or tack to hold the hanger onto the back of the pallet

Steps

And here’s how they come together:

  1. Using a saw, cut your 3″ board into three 12″ sections.
  2. Next, cut the 2″ board into 8″ sections (you’ll need two of these 8″ sections for each plaque).
  3. Using a hand sander or sandpaper, sand the edges and corners of all the pieces to create a worn look.
  4. Because I wanted to paint to look thin … almost like a stain with the wood grain showing through, I watered gray chalk paint down with equal parts water and paint before painting it onto each piece.
  5. After the paint has dried, simply place wood glue onto the back of each 2″ piece, and glue these to the three 3″ boards on the top and bottom as shown below:Use for old pallets - Photo Display
  6. Allow the glue to dry, then create a jute hanger for your pallet.DIY Pallet Plaques
  7. Cut a piece of jute (or twine/ribbon/yarn) and staple each side to the back of the plaque as shown.  Don’t have a staple gun?  You could simply use a thumb or small nail to secure the jute ends to the plaque. How to attache sting to a frame to hold photos
  8. Next, attach your bulldog clip to the front of the plaque with a short screw

  1. It’s been defined as a good and efficient way to stop smoking by means off anyone whoo has trdied out this device however the Food and drug administration states otherwise.
Secondly, when discussing health and safety, you have to take into account the health aand safety
of people who smoke traditional tobacco cigarettes. A few online shops offer top of the line,
premium e-juice that produces massive amounts of vapor that you
can see and taste, butt you will have to keep your eye out foor the right ojes and don’t be fooled by the shops that have flashy designms with hardly
    any flavor.

  2. I love this idea for any home decor. You can switch out pictures and if it comes time to sell your home you can put up more generic art items to home buyers can envision their own pictures in them. Thanks for sharing!

  3. Hello! I know this is an older post, but I’m hoping you see this comment and are able to assist before I purchase the wrong size for our group’s craft. What size bull dog clips did you use for this? Amazon lists multiple sizes, so I’m assuming these are either Medium (1.5 inches) OR Small (7/8 inches). The link you provided shows four sizes and defaults to Medium. Can you assist? Thanks!

    1. Hi Brittany,

Yes, this is an older post plus I did not make these one of my contributors did.

I looked at the instructions. It looks like the final size is about 9” wide. The clips look small to me…I think she used the Medium 1.25” or possibly a 1” (not shown in link) http://amzn.to/2shn42W It does default to medium.

The boards are 3” wide and the clip looks to be about 1” in this photo – 1.25” would be fine.

I hope that helps! Let me know if you have more questions.

  4. My daughter’s Girl Scout troop made these using purchased wood (only because they wouldn’t have the patience to tear apart pallets), I used 2 1×6’s for the width and a 1×1 for across, they were 12 x 15, they turned out really cute, and were the perfect project for 11 yr olds. Thank you.

  5. Someone is using your pictures to advertise their product on Etsy. Search under pallet plaque and you will find it.
