Easy Upcycled Decorated Candle Holder

Hello again friends, and happy spring! Erica here from Dwell Beautiful for the Third Thursday of the month craft tutorial. I hope you all had a fantastic Easters! I’ve realized that I don’t really have a lot of springy decor, so I decided that I needed to change that! I have a lot of old empty Bath and Bodyworks and Glade candle jars lying around, so what better way to upcycle and reuse them than giving a couple new life as springy tea candle holders? This is a super easy project that can be done in minutes!

While looking for springy inspiration, I didn’t have to look any further this very blog! Susan’s fun polka dot header just says spring with the bright and poppy colors! Her blog served as the inspiration for this project 🙂

Decorated Candle Holder Materials

– Old, cleaned out candle jar. (You can learn how to get old wax out of candles here!)

– Hot glue gun

– Beads, cabochons, or other small, decorative items

– Tea light

Step 1

First decide on a color pallet for your decorated candle holder. Since I’m following Oh My! Creative’s blog for inspiration, I chose pretty and bright yellow, orange, and teal! For a more varied and and fun look, chose beads or cabochons of varying sizes.

Step 2

Take your hot glue gun and start gluing your decorative items to your candle jar. I like to work in layers, starting with one color before moving onto another. If you aren’t covering the whole jar, mix up where you place the pieces for a natural random look, or go symmetrical and place them lines! It’s truly up to you 🙂

Step 3

Continue adding beads or cabochons to your candle jar with your hot glue gun. Once you feel like you’ve decorated enough, let it dry and then you’re done! Pop a tea light in there and bask in the ambiance 🙂

It’s such a cheery little candle holder – I’ve decided to keep it on my desk while I’m working. Definitely makes my office that much brighter 🙂 Since I had the glue gun out I also decided to glue some cabochons to an old Trader Joe’s pesto jar I had lying around. The end result is another awesome candle holder that you could also use as a vase!

It’s actually kind of addicting to sit there and think up new patterns to glue onto old jars! I just love to upcycle and reuse things that would normally go in the recycle bin. The end result is super cute decor for mere pennies!

Thanks so much again to Susan for having me along and I’ll see you next month! 🙂
