I love making easy seasonal decorations for the table to get the kids excited about the holiday. Maybe it’s because my mom always made holidays special with all kinds of fun activities, decorations and crafts.

So I am trying to make the same memories for our kids, and since Thanksgiving can be a left-out holiday for decor, I decided it was time to make something special just for it.

Sadly, because of the back-to-back holidays, Thanksgiving is left to just the turkey and pie. But my new way of making sure we get a little Thanksgiving decor is to make easy DIY Thanksgiving decorations for the Thanksgiving table.

And bonus, the decorations can double as Thanksgiving place cards or cute Thanksgiving treats (I know my kids love having something to munch on while waiting for the turkey to cook).

Then print the template on a piece of colored cardstock. I used a pale taupe cardstock so they would resemble my favorite white pumpkins that I used all over my house for fall decorations this year. Cut out along the solid lines and score or crease the dotted lines.

I used my Silhouette electronic cutting machine to cut out my pumpkins. I love my Silhouette and use it for so many different crafts and homemade decorations. If you have a Silhouette, you can download the cut file for free here.

Glue the two pieces of the pumpkin box together at the bottom. Make sure the pumpkin sides are opposite each other.

Once dried, fold all the pieces up toward the center. Then grab the two stems and press them down so you can loop the holes in the sides over the stems.

Fold the leaf in half along the dotted lines. Cut a 2-3 inch piece of green floral wire. Wrap 2/3rds of the wire around a pencil. Then fold the remainder over and glue it to the back of the leaf.

Finally, glue the leaf to the top side piece of the pumpkin box with a dollop of hot glue. Make sure you glue it to the side piece that is looped over the stems last so you can open it up again. I just love these adorable little curly wires.

Now you can open it up and fill it full of treats, I chose peanuts because my kids think shelling peanuts is the best thing ever! Seriously, they love it and it entertains them for a long time.
